Not only does it warm up the hands, body and seriously... the soul, it's healthy too!
So enough talking.. here's the recipe for
Red Spiced Cacao Chai
1 cup raw milk (I used half almond milk because I ran out of milk!)
1 heaping Tablespoon Organic Red Palm Oil
1 heaping Tablespoon Coconut sugar or other sweetener. Just make sure you're using a REAL sweetener, not something chemical!
1 level teaspoon cinnamon
1 level teaspoon Raw Cacao powder
1 dash vanilla (optional)
1 mini pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
Throw everything into a saucepan on medium heat. The palm oil is solid at room temperature so you'll want to let that melt. If you're using milk, make sure you don't overheat or get it to boil but you want it nice and hot!
Here's the key to making this just right - dump the hot liquid into a blender or vitamix and blend it well. Be careful not to overfill your blender because hot liquids expand as they mix plus you don't want that hot stuff spurting all over your kitchen and you if you accidentally don't get the lid on completely! (I speak from experience.)
Blending it is important because you need to incorporate the wonderful, healthy, delicious, and RED oil throughout the drink. Plus it makes it all frothy and foamy. Yum!
Red Palm Oil is good because it... "contains the highest amounts of vitamins A and E of any plant- based oil. Its dark red color comes from carotenes, such as alpha-carotene and beta-carotene (vitamin A) nutrients that provide color to fruits and vegetables such as carrots and tomatoes. Red palm also contains at least ten other carotenes, including the antioxidants, tocopherols and tocotrienols (vitamin E)."
Pour into a nice sized mug ... bonus points if yours has red polka dots like mine ... and sip away! Feel the cold melt away and trust me ... you are warming up your soul. Really.
